Greensboro, N.C., November 4, 2024 – Reconsidered Goods (RG), Greensboro’s only creative reuse center, proudly welcomes three local artists as part of their 2024 artist-in-residence series. Reconsidered Good’s three-week program provides artists a weekly stipend, space to create and engage with the public, and an opportunity to incorporate items selected from RG’s resale store. The project is part of Reconsidered Goods education and community outreach programs and is supported, in part, by a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
In October, sound technician and videographer Tumaini Johnson designed Reconsidered Grooves, an introduction to the world of found sounds from repurposed items.
Starting November 3rd, RG welcomes textile artist, clothing designer, and garment-making instructor Ann Tilley. Ann is working on several fiber projects using reused materials and invites the public to join in. RG will host a free-to-the-public artist reception and exhibition of her work on Saturday, November 23rd, from 5 to 6 pm. RSVP HERE
In December, visual artist Jordan Robinson will amplify the voices of Greensboro’s community through the power of a communal art piece that represents the themes of memory, healing, and reconciliation. His residency will also include portraits of individuals connected to Greensboro made from locally sourced objects, helping to weave personal narratives into a shared experience. Jordan remarks, “A residency at Reconsidered Goods allows me to develop my skills as an artist while helping expand the conversation from my last body of work. “Reconcilia” is an opportunity for people in the community to tell their stories through found objects that have departed from those who originally possessed them. Having this kind of project housed at an organization that helps these items find new narratives makes sense. This residency will also help me explore storytelling through art and how art can facilitate memory, reconciliation, and healing.” Jordan’s free community workshop is scheduled for December 20th from 3 to 6 pm; RSVP HERE.
Reconsidered Goods invites artists to discover new ways to work with repurposed and recycled materials. Executive Director Catena Bergevin, who is also the board chair of The City of Greensboro’s Cultural Affairs Commission, states, “We are thrilled to provide local artists space and time in a place that organically encourages innovation, experimentation, and environmental sustainability.” The program includes an opportunity for artists to design free community programs, events, exhibitions, or performances to engage the public in their creative process.
